MULTI-WORD VERBS: WITH ‘OUT’ out的短語動詞
至上個單元里我們學習了動詞+in的比喻和慣用的意思。本單元里我們接著學習動詞+out的比喻的慣用的意思。
動詞+out詞組里，動詞一般保持原來的意思不普通，所以很容易理解：
I cut out pictures of pop stars from magazines.我把受歡迎的明星從雜志上剪了下來。
John will help out if you need him.如果你需要，約翰會幫助你。
A day at the seaside should tire them out. 在海邊玩一天會讓他們很累。
He bought out his partner.他買下了合伙人的全部股份。
在back out 和pick out里，動詞back和pick的意思稍微有所引申：
Originally 30 were going, but all except two have backed out.最初有30人去，但后來除了兩個人之外全部退出了。

些詞組是慣用表達，這時，動詞和out 的意思和原意是不同的：
*knock out擊��；打昏
Ali knocked out Frazier in the fifth round. 阿里在第五回合擊敗了弗雷澤。
*pass out 昏過去；失去知覺
When she saw so much blood, she passed out.她看見這么多的血就昏了過去。
*sort out分類
Can you sort these out into large and small ones？你能把這些按大小分開嗎？
*count someone out不把某人包括在內
If it costs that much, you can count me out.如果花費那么高，你可以把我除外。
stand out引入注目；突出
With his red hair, he always stands out in a corwd.他長著一頭紅發(fā)，站在人群里很突出。
*fall out (with) 爭吵
Has he fallen out with her?Why did they fall out?他和她吵了架嗎？他們?yōu)槭裁闯臣埽?/DIV>
*break out爆發(fā)；發(fā)生
A cholera epidemic has broken out in the refugee camp. 一場霍亂在難民營爆發(fā)。
*make out完成；寫出
It says “This belong…’, but I can’t make out the rest. 可以說“這個屬于……”， 但是我寫不出剩下的部分。
*bear out證明；支持
Can anyone bear out your story?
有人能證明你講的事情嗎？
*cut out停止
The machine cuts out when it gets too hot.
機器過熱就會停止運轉。
*turn out 生產；趕出；原來是
The factory turns out five thousand cars a week. 這個工廠一周生產5000輛汽車。
Her father was so angry that he turned her out.她爸爸非常生氣，把她趕了出去。
He turned out to be adopted. 原來他是被領養(yǎng)的。
