戀愛是個永恒的話題，哪里都一樣。一些關于戀情的常用鞏是非常有必要記住的，優朗英語口語培訓部教學主任Cella在此集中列出。

◆    Have a crush on someone(迷戀，喜歡某人)

Derek has a huge crush on Meg, but he’s too afraid to tell her.(Derek非常喜歡Meg, 可他不敢告訴她。)

值得一提的是，crush雖然泛指迷戀，但have a crush on someone大多形容暗戀。

◆    Beauly is in the eye of the beholder.（情人眼里出西施。）

Honestly, Pauline isn’t very attractive in the traditional sense,but her husband thinks she’s absolutely gorgeous. As the saying goes, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. *(說實放在，Pauline的外貌讓人不敢恭維，但她先生卻認為她非常漂亮。這正應了那句老話：情人眼里出西施。)

◆    the third wheel(電燈泡)

My brother asked me to have dinner with him and Mary, but I said no. I don’t want to be the third whe

（我哥叫我跟他和Mary一起吃飯，但是我拒絕了。我可不想當“電燈泡”。）

有意思的是，不少美國人也把“電燈泡”叫the fifth wheel.倒是很符合中國中情，因為自行車只需要兩個輪子；而且third也比較容易讓人聯想到中文里的“第三者”

◆    taken (nnxce ll /vvv eedcb )

I was helplessly in love with her, but she was already taken. （我不可救藥地愛上了她，但她已經名花

有主了。

還有一個類似的說法是attached to someone,孔表示已經不再是單身。

I’m smitten with her, but she’s attached to my best friend. I can only let go.（她讓我神魂顛倒，但她是我最好的朋友的女朋友。我只好放手。）

◆    hook up （談戀愛）

Paris: You won’t believe this. Andy and Laura have hooked up! (Paris:你不會相信這個消息的。

Andy和Laura居民好上了！）

   Melinda: maybe they were just pretending because they didn’t want others to know.(paris:可能他們不想讓大家猜到他們在談戀愛，所以才裝的吧。)

◆    ask someone out(追求)

Jake : Are you free Frisday night? (Jack:星期五晚上你有空嗎？)

Kate: Yes.What’s up?(Kate: 有啊。什么事？)

Jack： I’m wondering if … uh,if you’d like to have dinner with me. (Jack:我在想……呃，你能不能賞臉與我共進晚餐。)

Kate: Are you asking me out? (Kate:你這是在正式追求我嗎？)

Ask someone out是“追求某人”最普遍、最延期的說法。很多學英語的國人喜歡說pursue someone,不建議使用。美國人一般都覺得它聽起來比較別扭，所以很少這樣說。

◆    dump (甩)

She always plays that “I’m gonna dump you” card when they quarrel, because she knowsa he’s wimp

and that he will certainly compromise first.(他們吵架的時候她總來“我要甩了你”那套知道他很沒用，一定會先妥協。）

◆    two-time somebody（腳踩兩只船）

Nicole is heartbroken,because she found her bodfriend had been two- timing her since day one.(Nicole很傷心，因為她剛發現她男朋友一直在腳踩兩只船。)

還有一個類似的說法是play the field,表示一腳踏多船。比如：

Enjoy your single status while you can! If you get married, you can’t play the field any longer.(趁著意向的時候好好享受吧。結了婚照就不能亂來了。)

◆    Absence makes the heart grow fonder.(距離產生美。、小別勝新婚。)

I know long-distance relationship hard, but you’ve got to believe.absnece makes the heart grow fonder, or you’ll never make it.（我知道分開兩地的戀情很痛苦，但你必須堅信“距離產生美”，不然這段感情是沒法持續下去的。）

◆    on-again, off-again（時分時合）

Their on-again, off-again relationship always keeps friends guessing.（他們分分合合的關系總讓朋友猜不透。）o

注釋on-again, ff-again因為巨星Jennifer Lopez和Ben Affleck的分分合合成為2003年美國媒體使用最高的詞匯之一。
