這個引喻可以指人也可指物。指人時是說雙方有共同的見解或者愛好。又可用于下列句子中：be a man after my own heart.

[例]1.Tanner….however, cheer up; we are going to have a day after your own heart. 坦納：。。。不過，高興點吧，我們要使你今天過得稱心如意。

有人說這條成語源于古老的法語 en gogues,另有人說源于to goggle(轉動眼珠)一詞。
