關于英語end 與every 的英語口語的用法
End (或 go up) in smoke 煙消云散；不成功，成為泡影
指一個人所期望的閃亮火焰消失了。
【例】he made a big to do at the start and spent pounds and pounds, but you see it has all ended in smoke.一開始他就大肆喧嘩，并一再花錢，可是您瞧，毫無結果
End of one’s tether忍無可忍；山窮水盡；智窮力竭
原指縛在繩索上的家畜，可以再繩索長度范圍內啃草，但不能自己走出超過繩索的長度范圍。一般用于下列句子中：be at the end of one’s tether,或reach the ead of one’s tether.
【例】if you ask me ,I think they are at the end of their tether. Another strain upon their business means bankruptcy for them.你若問我，我認為他們已到山窮水盡的地步了。他們的經營再受到一次壓力就會破產。
Enough to make a saint swear[口]足以使圣人詛咒；足以令人惱怒
美國劇作家佛朗西斯.博蒙特和弗萊徹在一六二O年合寫的《菲拉斯特》中首先使用這條成語。

這里的every據說是ever的訛用，同樣錯用every的還有every so often（不時，時常）。有時用again代替then
【例】1.last night ,every now and then, his baby cried out in his sleep.昨夜他的嬰兒常常在睡眠中大喊起來。
2.as we watched the sea, every now and again we caught the flash of the strange sea creature’s fins.我們觀看大海時，不時看到那個奇異的海洋動物的鰭一閃而過。

原來是美語，用于詞句之后以加強語氣，很少用來指時間。
