LESSON EIGHT FOREIGH TRADE POLICY ( II )
Beckman: Mr. Ling, we have done business with each other for quite many years,
haven’t we? And I’m glad to say that relations between us have got along very smoothly. I have every reason to believe in your trade policy, don’t I?
Liang: You look as if you have something on your mind today. What makes you uneasy, Mr. Beckman? Tell me, please. Maybe I can give you some advice.
Beckman: Well, it is said that you are taking yup a new foreign trade policy in your business dealings. Is that true? Does it mean that your trade policy is going to change?
Liang: We still keep to the principle of equality and mutual benefit in our trade with other countries. Only we are trying to follow some general international practices.
Beckman: I’d like very much to know more about this. Could you explain it in detail?
Liang: With pleasure. We have adopted for example, payment by installnents, compensation trade and so on.
Beckman: Do you accept foreign loans?
Liang: If the terms and conditions are favorable, we are prepared to accept foreign loans. Apart from this, we also encourage various forms of foreign investment. For instance, you can establish an enterprise exclusively with foreign capital if you use advanced technology and equipment and market most of the products outside China.
Beckman: Then your policy is indeed more flexible than before. This will give is both a better chance for cooperation.
Liang: Yes. It will benefit us both, too.
Beckman: Thanks for your explanation. Now I’ve come to see you’re really pursuing an open-door policy. China is progressing rapidly. I hope your policy will remain unchanged.
Liang: Don’t worry about it. We’ve always adhered to our policy in the past and surely will do so in the future.
