In your e-mail; of June 7 you asked about American business customs. I am happy to answer your questions and give you some advice to help you prepare for your first trip to the United States.

•American men and women hsake hands when they are introduced on business occasions.

•U.S. busness meetings usually begin exactly on time. A 10:00 Am appointment means you should arrive exactlyat, or a few minutes before 10:00 AM.

• Business meetings over lunch are common. They usually start at about 12:30 and end by 2:00.

•Don’t be surprised if you get an invitation to breakfast. It is a popular time for business get- togethers.

A: Ken, you’ve spent some time in the Us. Havent you? 肯，你曾經在美國待過一段時間，是嗎？

 

K:Yes, I was in the States for a year. 是的，我在美國待過一年。

A：Well, I’m going to New York on business next month, and I was hopeing you could give me some advice.

A：What about business clothe?　商務場合的著裝怎么樣？

K: Well, a lot of American companies have a business casual dress code.許多美國公司都有商務休閑裝的著裝規則。

Ａ：What do you mean, business casual?你說“商務休閑裝”是什么意思？

K: For men, it usually means you should wear a shirt shoes, but no jeans, sandals, trainers or while socks.對于男人來講，商務休閑裝的意思就是你應該穿帶領帶的襯衫、系皮帶的褲子褲子和皮鞋，但是不能穿牛仔褲、涼鞋、運動鞋或白襪子。

A: What about a suit?穿套裝怎么樣？

K: Well, some American executives wear a suilt to work, so take one with you,just in case. And whatever you do, be sure to take lightweight colthes. It can be very hot and humid on New York at this time of the year.
