關于美國銀行，不管是美國當地銀行還是美國幾大著名銀行，第一次申請一般會是借記卡。信用卡只有等申請到SSN才能辦理。如果你是在美國留學，有幾樣東西是絕不能丟的；護照、1-20、SSN以及借記卡或信用卡。你或許會奇怪，信用卡或借記卡丟了取不出錢。對，沒錯，但在美國是可以隨便刷卡的，收銀員會問及你要用的是信用卡還是借記卡，如果你說借記卡，那么需要輸入4為密碼，但如果你說信用卡，最后簽名即可，因此你的卡如果丟失，別人可以簽你的名字刷卡。另外，在此建議大家不要輕易申請信用卡，因為很多銀行的信用卡年費是很高的，有的甚至還有很多附加條款，留學生如果注意不到，有時候會很麻煩，甚至會吃官司。來美國有幾種方法可以攜帶錢；現金、電匯、旅行支票、信用卡存款等，一般額度大的需要跟學校確認，因為有時學校規定交款方式，甚至會規定master  card 或visa . 除了現金外，電匯是一般人常用的，因為電匯速度快，手續費少，而且安全，但第一次去美國如果需要帶大額度的錢，可以將錢存入國內信用卡內，但最好不要在美國用國內信用卡取款，因為手續費會非常高。
